Health Carousel-Sponsored Ugandan Nurse Training Lab Dedication, Programs to Begin Soon

The Ugandan Nurses and Midwives Union (UNMU) held a dedication ceremony for a new nurse training lab housed within their offices. The lab features 15 laptops to provide UNMU member nurses with advanced online RN training. The laptops were provided to UNMU through funding by Health Carousel's Light the Way initiative to develop and train nurses globally.

Pictured above: It was a joyous event conducted by Mr. Justus Cherop Kiplangat, President of UNMU (blue shirt); Mr. Abdul Byakatonda, Member of Parliament of Uganda (red tie); and Ms. Harriet Birungi, Assistant Commissioner, Uganda Ministry of Health (green jacket).

Remotely: Health Carousel's Earl Dalton, Chief Nursing Officer, and Andrew Lingo, Program Director, Ethical Recruitment & Workforce Sustainability, addressed the attendees on their joint efforts to create the lab.

Nurse training will begin in January 2023 to coincide with the new academic term. Fifteen nurses will begin a 12-month program to advance their critical care nursing skills by completing Essentials of Critical Care Orientation (ECCO) coursework, delivered via the HealthStream online education platform and attending online lectures provided by Health Carousel's U.S.-based experienced nursing team. The enrolled nurses will also have in-hospital patient care opportunities to apply their learning as they work through the year-long program.

In the future, the UNMU lab may provide online lectures and training to multiple cohorts of Ugandan nurses, covering additional vital need areas such as maternal health/OB and oncology.
